The two BC772RB compactors joined a Cat compactor and two bulldozers at Bees Ferry. According to Dukes, most of the landfill's intake is construction and demolition waste, followed by a large percentage of municipal waste. The different trash varieties are deposited in separate areas of the landfill. The refuse compactors are then used to compact the waste in both locations. Dukes has seen enough equipment come and go in his 13 years of experience at Bees Ferry to understand that there are fundamental differences in compaction performance between various machines. Many are specifically manufactured and dedicated for refuse compaction, while others are modified for the landfill but still expected to function as though they were dedicated units. "It's obvious from observing them on a day-to-day basis that the new machines do a great job of actually compacting the trash and maximizing the space we have available," said Dukes, who attributes the performance to the fact that the BOMAG units are built from the ground up to be landfill machines. |
