| A Landfill Comes Clean About Compaction |

Page 1 of 4 Cleanliness is not a word typically associated with landfills. However, as the staff at the L.P. Gill Landfill will tell you, cleanliness is a primary concern when selecting a landfill compactor. Like all landfills, L.P. Gill is always looking for ways to increase the life and efficiency of their operation. The landfill recently purchased a larger compactor to help with this effort. However, they still claim that clean wheels and an operator-friendly design are primary considerations when selecting compactors. As the L.P. Gill staff has discovered, these elements not only increase efficiency by reducing maintenance and increasing traction, but more importantly, a machine with wheels designed to stay clean can significantly increase compaction densities.
Achieving good compaction can considerably extend the landfill's life and save the landfill operator a significant amount of money. "The cost of the space is tremendous. Extending the life of the landfill just four or five years can save a lot of money," said Gene Hansen, L.P. Gill Landfill manager. "The need to increase the landfill's life makes compaction a very important consideration, and the selection of a refuse compactor can drastically affect this component. |
