Chicago paving contractor gets big production
with BOMAG 815-2 compact paver

It isn't difficult to understand why terms like production and efficiency are constantly thrown around in today's construction industry. If a contractor can increase productivity while becoming more efficient, growing profits won't be far behind.

So when a company acquires a new piece of equipment, what exactly about the improved performance really makes it profitable? In the case of Lagone Paving and Sealcoating, a Chicagoland asphalt paving contractor that specializes in small jobs from driveways and parking lots to streets, the recent acquisition of a BOMAG 815-2 commercial-class paver has provided a multitude of benefits.

What ultimately makes Lagone Paving's paver profitable is the ability it gives the company to complete jobs more quickly, therefore allowing its paving crew to move on to the next order of business. It's a pretty simple equation: Faster jobs mean more jobs. More jobs mean more money.

Founded in 1985, Lagone Paving and Sealcoating had a lot riding on its purchase of the BOMAG 815-2. For some contractors, there may be concern about how a new paver will complement the rest of the fleet. For Lagone Paving, the 815-2 is the paving fleet.

BOMAG 815.2 paverOne of the first jobs tackled with the new paver involved putting in new pavement at a storage facility in Glenwood, Ill., the city where Lagone Paving is based. The project called for 2,000 tons of asphalt, a quantity that made the job one of the largest in company history.

"Our estimate was that we could put down 700 tons each day and get it done in three days," said Danny Lagone, owner of Lagone Paving and Sealcoating. "As far as we were concerned, we set the bar pretty high at that mark. As it turned out, we kicked out 1,000 tons each day, both of them standard 8-hour days. I was pretty impressed."
