Charlestown’s equipment fleet includes six BOMAG rollers, two Caterpillar D-5 bulldozers and two Case 580 rubber wheel front-end loader/excavators, as well as three commercial-class pavers for the smaller or more confining paving projects and two standard size pavers for the bigger paving projects. A new Marini MP 1300 cold planer milling machine (Marini is now part of BOMAG) completes the fleet, rounding out the equipment needed to carry out all aspects of the paving process without the need to bring in third parties to perform some of the services.

“With the milling machine in place, we have complete control over our paving projects,” said Bureski. “This results in top quality service for our customers. Service and quality performance are key to our continued success.”

Quality performance, as reflected by the result of good paving practices, is not only uppermost in Alleva’s and Bureski’s minds, but likewise in many of the employees such as Pommerer. Pommerer will at times do a little extra to ensure a quality milling job. He says that most third party milling contractors would mill exactly according to the specifications, no more and no less. “If the specifications called for milling two inches deep, that is exactly what their operator did and that is okay,” he said. “But milling to specs does not always ensure the best paving results. With me doing the milling, I will mill even deeper than what is called for if I see some pavement areas have highs that cannot be leveled correctly at the specified milling depth.
