Page 1 of 6 Q &D Construction has come a long way in 39 years. Founded by Norman Dianda in 1964, the Sparks, Nevada-based construction firm has been named Reno's Contractor of the Year five times and is currently one of the top 400 contractors in the nation in terms of total revenue. Much of Q&D's success can be attributed to its wide range of professional services. With up to 700 employees, the company offers development, engineering and building services - basically all phases and types of construction from the ground up. Another reason for its success is Q&D's willingness to incorporate new equipment technologies and its commitment to keeping all equipment serviced and running properly. This is where people like Buck Smith come into play. Serving as Q&D's small equipment specialist, Buck Smith is responsible for all of the company's small equipment concerns, from research and purchasing to maintenance and repair. With several thousand small tools in inventory at any given time, there is truly nothing "small" about his job.
One type of equipment that Smith sources and supports is vibratory tampers. Utilized on nearly all engineering and general construction jobs, vibratory tampers are a necessity for Q&D. So it is Smith's job to take notice when a new technology can make a positive difference on the job site. Such was the case with four-cycle engine tampers. |
